Life – most probably a child starts wondering about it as soon as the cognition of this world starts. I must have been 9 or 10 when I wrote thus-
‘Life is but a dream
Though pleasant it may seem’…..
Such a line of thought went into some hidden chamber of the brain , as I grew up , fought and tarried on with the apparent reality of it. Today both hemispheres of my brain have something to say.
The heart lies in the left , so we will start with the left. When I teach I give a very brief introduction to the characteristics of life outlining -MRS EGO
M=Metabolism – the sum total of all chemical reactions in the entire living body.
R=Reproduction– for the continuation of the species.
S=Sensation /Stimuli response – needed to survive in ever changing external cum internal environment
E=Energy interactions– constant intake and usage of energy is needed
G=Growth– All living things grow
O=Organisation – there is a saying ‘organisation isn’t about perfection ; it is about efficiency’ and what is more efficient than a living being. So, a living body is a highly organised entity.
So, are Reproduction and Growth the characteristics of life, found only in living beings?
Wait !! we have rocks! , apparently non-living displaying some characteristics of life .Costesti , a small town in Romania has mysterious and fascinating beings(?) the ‘trovant rocks. They exhibit the ability to grow and change shape and give rise to new stones (reproduce ?!), and locals describe them as “living stones.”. Geology /science in its attempt to rationalise everything and deny the existence of the hand of the Supreme Power , do offer some explanation but again science changes every 10 years and scientists believe that they know it all , but do they ?
So , now let us allow my right brain to have its say . as I delve into ‘Romanticism’. With a head full of an emphasis on the individual, nature, and emotions, rejecting social conventions and then it flows -the poetry
Hark ! the bough- its swaying wearisome .
The tawny blossoms , all gold -the morrow gone by
The heart with my banjo once did strum
Today stormy , anguished my somnolent eye
As you sow the field , pick and pack the plum
Break bondage chains , arise , awake don’t shy (smita amit ).
However new research suggests that both hemispheres can do each other’s jobs. So, both of them together wonder what death is .Do scriptures and physics meet here ?. Let us explore
“ According to , Robert Lanza M.D ,death is not the end , but rather a gateway to your own self in another universe. (imagine this- as you live your life here and now , another version of you is simultaneously existing in a different universe).
In Bhagvatam a story tells us how when Bramha ji, in order to test if Krisna is actually God, kidnaps his cows and cowherd friends (so very arrogant of him! )as Krisna was lost in playing his flute. When he comes back a year later (earth time , to Bramhaji it was just one day) he finds all the cows and cowherds playing around Krisna. How could that be ? Bramhaji wondered , as he had abducted and put all of them under ‘yognidra’. It was then that he approached Bhagwan . While telling him that he had created new cows and cowherds from himself , Krisna also tells Bramhaji that there are infinite Bramhas , each having his own universe . Some with 10 heads, some 100 while some with thousands and all worshiped The Almighty together.
Thus, we see the concept of time dilation and multiverses , mentioned in our scriptures .
Intriguing , is it not ?
